Oakwood Presbyterian Church - State College, PA

Project Completion: 2019

Project Highlights: 

• Worked with Oakwood Presbyterian’s Building Committee to develop a Master Plan for expanding church facilities to better support its growing congregation. 

• The capacity of the sanctuary was increased from 150 to 300 seats by incorporating existing underused space. 

• Expansive new windows along both walls to flood the sanctuary with natural light and showcase its beautiful wood roof superstructure. 

• New pendant lighting and seating create a welcoming worship space. 

• Relocated the church’s main entry to a large new fellowship hall with comfortable, flexible furniture and an open kitchen. 

• A new educational wing provides dedicated classrooms for students of all ages.

• Relocated and expanded the nursery with bright colors, access to the outdoors, and plenty of play space .

• A larger administrative area provides private offices and a variety of meeting rooms. 

• Transparency and daylighting, along with a palette of subdued, natural colors, creates a warm, inviting feel. 

• Delivered as a design-build project to protect their budget, the church remained open throughout construction.
