Project Highlights: 

• When Roots Natural Kitchen decided to open its fifth Mid-Atlantic location in State College, they turned to Hoffman Leakey to help them quickly fit-out their space in a newly constructed building along busy Beaver Avenue.

• Time was of the essence—the project began over the winter holidays, and the Owners wanted to be operational by July 1st.

• The HLA team kicked off the project with a January meeting at Roots’ corporate offices in Charlottesville, Virginia, followed by a design charrette in the State College space the next week to finalize the restaurant’s floor plan.

• Designers worked with their preferred vendor to identify kitchen needs so that equipment could be ordered early in the process.

• HLA expedited the local permitting process to keep the project moving.

• The new restaurant’s design balances an industrial feel with soft, natural tones, featuring polished concrete floors, pendant lighting, flexible indoor seating, and patio dining.
