This project reimagined a middle school cafeteria that had remained largely unchanged since its original construction in the 1990s. Serving not only daily student use but also banquets and other school events, the space required a thoughtful refresh to improve both function and atmosphere. The design introduces a more vibrant and playful environment through the use of color, incorporating the district’s maroon alongside hues representing the feeder elementary schools to create a sense of identity and cohesion. Wayfinding strategies were integrated to better guide students through serving areas, while new lighting enhances the overall brightness and cleanliness of the space, complemented by accent fixtures that reinforce the updated color palette. The renovation included new paint, flooring, and lighting, as well as a redesigned kitchen serving line. Close coordination with the client’s furniture and food service equipment manufacturers ensured that all elements work together seamlessly to support both everyday use and special events.
